It was designed to provide children with a fully usable, functional knife, but of course with many safety features to maximize safety. The knife is made out of molybdenum stainless steel, and the edge is actually quite sharp (which we agree it should be). Both the tip and the heel of the blade have been rounded and dulled to prevent accidental cuts and injuries. The curved heel provides great support for your child's index finger. The handle is made of Lamar resin which makes it slip-resistant and comfortable to use. The handle oval and thin to fit in smaller hands.
⚠️ We cannot stress enough that this is still a sharp knife and if not used under strict adult supervision, it can cause harm and injuries to your children. Please make sure to take enough time to teach your children about the proper usage and safety of using a kitchen knife. This knife is suitable for children older than 3 years. Blade wear depends on the quality of steel, usage and maintenance of the blade. Japanese knives are made of high-quality steels. Follow these tips to keep your Japanese knife in top-notch shape:
✔ Use a wooden, plastic or rubber cutting board.
✔ After use, wash the knives and wipe them dry.
✔ Use a magnetic rack, knife blocks, or use protective knife sheath (saya).
✔ A good cutting technique is your best bet to prolong sharpness.
✔ Use sharpening stones to sharpen the knife.
❗️Don’t leave the knife in the sink. Wash it by hand.
❗️Don’t wash the knife in the dishwasher.
❗️Don’t use the knife on glass, ceramics, marble or steel surfaces.
❗️Don’t scrape the food off the cutting board with the edge of the blade. Use the spine of the knife instead.
❗️Knife is a tool intended for specific use - cutting food. It is not a can opener, screwdriver, trowel, wire cutter, hammer etc.
