Koyo "Green Rouge" Polishing Compound [smaller chunk]
As soon as you start applying your brand new Koyo compound onto your leather strop, you will come to the realization that this big green block will probably outlive you. Unless you have a tool polishing business (or a sharpening service, like we do), the half-a-kilo block of Koyo will be waaaay too big for your home sharpening needs.
So we decided to cut the block into smaller chunks. These chunks weigh approximately 150 - 170g (5 - 6 oz) - these will last for at least 5-10 years - sharing it with your friends and family is included in this unscientific calculation (but based on experience). It depends a bit on how often and how many knives you sharpen, but for most users, these smaller chunks will be more than enough for a very long time.
About Koyo "Green Rouge":
You will find a block of Koyo "Green Rouge" polishing compound in practically every knife smithery in Japan (and also in other tool-making facilities). Blacksmiths apply it to their buffing and polishing wheels to give a final polish to their precious knives.
For home use, we highly recommend applying this Koyo compound to your leather strop for the same reasons as Japanese blacksmiths do. It will help with removing the burr and adding a high polish to your newly sharpened edge. Simply rub this green block on the surface of your leather strop until the leather is slightly green in color.
