Handcrafted with exceptional care, this traditional Japanese grass-cutting sickle features a razor-sharp, single-bevel carbon steel blade (hardened to ~HRC 60+) laminated for added strength. It is finished with a “suki grind”—a finely concave shape that reduces friction and helps prevent grass from sticking to the blade, making each cut smoother and more efficient. Designed with ergonomics in mind, the sturdy magnolia wood handle ensures comfort and control, even during extended use.
Care Tips: After use, wipe the blade and apply a light coat of oil to prevent rust. Avoid contact with stones and other hard objects, as they can damage the blade.
About Banshu Sickles and Takemoto Sickle
The Usugama Sickle is the foundational tool that helped make Banshu sickles famous across Japan. Originating in Hyogo Prefecture, Banshu-gama are rooted in over 250 years of blacksmithing tradition. These “razor sickles” were born when swordsmiths like Isuke Fujiwara adapted samurai blade-making techniques to agricultural tools.
The Takemoto family joined this legacy in the early 20th century, founding Takemoto Kama Manufacturing in 1912. Today, the company continues to uphold this tradition through the Kikumatsu Series, premium Sakle tools, and the contemporary TAKEMOTO BROS. line—blending time-honored craftsmanship with modern performance.
