About the project
The Knife Vision series explores the texture and reflection of light in the world of Japanese knife-making. Each image represents the artistry of a different knife master and their unique vision of metal and its properties. The project is a tribute to the craftsmanship of Japanese knives, which dates back centuries, and a reflection on the nature of our gaze.
As the knife masters work their surface, so does the light.
The Knife Vision series is a collection of photographs made exclusively for SharpEdge Shop.

About the author
With his time split between Paris and Ljubljana, photographer Martin Baebler combines traditional French influences with modern design motifs. After graduating from the Italian Institute of Photography (IFF) in Milan in 2002, he moved to Paris in 2006 and has since showcased his work worldwide. His art, inspired by cinema, classical art, and travel, often spotlights striking, intricate textures. When shooting in black and white, he explores the shades of depth, “the range of the black-and-white rainbow from a stifling black to a purified whiteness, with an arc of rich greys in between”.
