The cutting board is machine-washable and bend-proof due to its wooden core being sandwiched between two polyethylene plates and a side polyethylene layer. This board’s polyethylene surface is a great substitute for wood due to its similar characteristics.

This board’s surface is easy to clean, doesn't absorb flavors, and, above all, has less effect on the sharpness of the blade. Harder plastic cutting boards usually don’t mix well with the harder steels that Japanese blades are forged from, and can sometimes cause them to chip. Hasegawa solves this issue with the addition of a wooden core that is then sandwiched between two layers of soft polyethylene plastic. The result is a lighter, easy-to-handle cutting board which is at the same time sturdier and won’t bend when weighed down heavily.

This cutting board is also more hygienic – it doesn't absorb scents and flavors from different ingredients that might get left behind in the slits of wooden boards. It’s also safe to wash in the dishwasher – if you have one that’s big enough.
