The Shapton Glass Diamond Lapping Plate is a professional-grade tool designed not only to restore and maintain the flatness of sharpening stones, but also to refine their surface texture, ensuring consistent, high-performance sharpening. Over time, even the highest-quality stones wear unevenly, reducing their effectiveness. This lapping plate brings them back to perfectly flat condition so you can achieve razor-sharp, reliable results with every session.

Built on an ultra-flat base and coated with industrial-grade diamond abrasives, the plate offers exceptional durability and fast material removal. Its grooved surface efficiently channels away slurry to prevent clogging and keeps the abrasive surface clean and effective.

What is Lapping?
Lapping refers to the process of flattening and refining a surface to improve its texture, consistency, and smoothness. When used on sharpening stones, lapping flattens the surface and conditions it—opening up the abrasive layer and creating a smooth, responsive texture.

How to use the Shapton Glass Lapping Stone?

  • Wet thoroughly: Use plenty of water—ideally under a running tap or in a sink—to keep the surface lubricated and flush away debris.
  • Draw a pencil grid: Mark a grid on your sharpening stone to track your progress and avoid over-flattening.
  • Lap diagonally: Move your sharpening stone across the lapping plate in diagonal strokes (corner to corner) to ensure even wear and a uniformly flat surface.

Whether you're a professional sharpener or a dedicated enthusiast, maintaining a flat sharpening surface is essential. The Shapton Diamond Glass Lapping Plate gives you the control and precision you need for expert-level results.

Designed for Shapton Glass stones but suitable for other fine stones (#500 grit and up).
